Can I Even Afford Therapy Right Now?

Let’s just say it: Therapy can feel expensive.

When groceries are up, rent is climbing, and your paycheck feels like it evaporates faster than you can say “self-care”, investing in therapy might feel unrealistic. And if you’re someone who already prides themselves on being resourceful, it can be tempting to try to piece together your healing through free online resources, social media, or even ChatGPT.

And listen, I get it. I’ve even seen videos floating around (like this one from The Bert Show), where people joke about using ChatGPT as their therapist. The truth is, if you’ve ever typed something like “Why do I attract emotionally unavailable people?” or “Am I burnout or depressed?” into a chatbot at 2AM—you’re not alone.

But Here’s the Thing…

ChatGPT can be a powerful tool. It can name a pattern, reflect something back to you, or help you feel a little less alone. But it doesn’t know your nervous system. It doesn’t understand your attachment wounds, the silence in your relationships, or the shame that rises when you even consider asking for help.

Most therapists aren’t trying to make healing inaccessible. We know therapy is an investment, and we want that investment to feel (and actually be) worth it.

At my practice, I offer sessions at $350 for 60 minutes or $275 for 45 minutes. For some, that’s doable. For others, it’s out of reach. That’s why I also:
- Offer a limited number of **sliding scale spots** ($185 minimum)
- Accept **Loveland Foundation Therapy Fund vouchers** for qualifying clients
- Provide consults that can help you determine what the best fit is for your care—even if that means referring you to someone else

Here’s What I Tell People Wondering If Therapy Is “Worth It”

If you’re high-functioning on the outside but secretly feel stuck, numb, or burned out, therapy isn’t a luxury—it’s a lifeline.

You’re not just paying for a session. You’re investing in:
- Learning how to rest without guilt
- Healing attachment patterns that impact every relationship you have
- Feeling safe in your own body and boundaries
- Undoing years of survival mode
- And yes—getting free from that feeling that you have to hold everything (and everyone) together all the time

But I’ll Be Honest:

If the choice is therapy or food, therapy or housing—choose stability. I say that with my whole chest. And I’ll help you find free or lower-cost options if that’s where you are right now.

But if the barrier is fear, guilt, or the belief that you’re not “bad enough” to deserve care, I invite you to pause. Who told you healing had to wait until you were falling apart?
